Neston Community Cyber Centre
1. Introduction
Neston Community Cyber Centre is a volunteer-led organisation supporting adults experiencing digital exclusion. To provide our services, we sometimes need to collect, store, and use personal information. We are committed to protecting the privacy and rights of everyone we work with, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
This Privacy and Data Protection Statement explains what information we collect, how we use it, how it is stored, and your rights regarding your personal data.

We only collect information that is necessary for our activities, such as:
- Basic personal details: Name, address, date of birth, phone number, provided on the membership form.
- Records of membership and attendance.
- Contact details when someone reaches out via our website or email.
- Support needs or accessibility information if required for delivering our services.
We do not collect any unnecessary information, and we do not collect data from our website other than through voluntary contact forms. There are no cookies used on our website.
3. Purpose of Processing Personal Data
We use personal data to:
- Maintain a record of who our members are.
- Communicate with members, volunteers, CWaC. (Cheshire West and Chester council)
- Provide digital support services.
- Monitor and improve our activities.
- Comply with reporting obligations—for example, information shared with Cheshire West Adult Learning Services, who provide us with an annual grant.
We do not use your data for marketing or commercial purposes.
4. Data Sharing
We do not share personal data with third parties except:
- With Cheshire West Adult Learning Services, solely to meet reporting requirements connected to grant funding.
- When we have your explicit consent.
- When required by law.
- When necessary to protect someone's vital interests or safety

2 'Safeguarding Policy Summary– Volunteers Supporting Adults with Digital Exclusion'
The Purpose of safeguarding:
To protect adults at risk from harm, abuse, or exploitation while receiving digital inclusion support, and to guide volunteers in safe, respectful practice for individuals using the Cyber Centre.
Whom It Applies To:
All volunteers, involved in delivering services to adults who may be vulnerable
due to age, disability, mental health, social isolation, or other factors.
5 Key Principles of safeguarding:
- Dignity & Respect – Treat every individual as capable, valuing their independence and privacy.
- Empowerment – Support people to make their own informed choices in digital spaces. Promote well-being and safety.
- Prevention – Be alert to early signs of harm, fraud, or exploitation.
- Proportionality – Respond to concerns in a measured, appropriate way. Never ignore anyone's concerns
- Partnership – Work with safeguarding leads, local authorities, and other agencies when needed.
All Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Follow the Neston Community Cyber Centre's code of conduct at all times.
- Avoid unnecessary physical contact and never engage in personal financial transactions with participants.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries online and in person (no personal social media connections).
- Keep personal data confidential and secure, following GDPR.
- Be vigilant for signs of:
- Online scams and phishing attempts
- Coercion or undue influence in online activities
- Signs of neglect, abuse, or exploitation (including digital abuse)
Responding to Concerns:
- Do not promise confidentiality to the person raising the concern, as the concern has to be forwarded to a safeguarding professional.
- Record factual details promptly and accurately.
- Report concerns immediately to the safeguarding lead (SL).
- If there is an immediate risk of harm, contact emergency services.
Training & Support:
- All volunteers can opt for safeguarding training.
- The policy will be reviewed annually and updated with changes in law or best practice.
- The SL is available for advice and debriefing.

You can also report adult safeguarding concerns via the Adult Social Care portal on the Cheshire West and Chester Council website.

Important considerations
- If you are a professional, you should discuss the referral with i-ART before submitting it, as per the advice on the Cheshire West and Chester Council website.

3 'Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED& I) Policy for Neston Community Cyber Centre (NCCC)'
1. Policy Statement
At Neston Community Cyber Centre, we are committed to promoting equality, embracing diversity, and ensuring inclusive practices across all areas of our work. As a volunteer-led organisation supporting adults experiencing digital exclusion, we recognise that true inclusion empowers individuals to thrive, participate fully in society, and access the digital tools they need.
